In comparison with other Swiss cities, the cost of living in Fribourg is relatively low.
Switzerland uses the Swiss franc (CHF). Credit cards (Visa, American Express, Maestro) are accepted almost everywhere.
To get an idea of the cost of living in Switzerland, here is a list of some average prices:
The average cost of living for a student in Fribourg is between CHF 1,200 and CHF 2,000 per month.
This includes rent (~CHF 410 to 800*), food and basic necessities (~CHF 300 to 600), and transportation (~CHF 50 to 100), leisure activities (~CHF 100 to 200).

Grant
Erasmus + Programme:
Exchange students from an EU partner university studying and living in Switzerland may be eligible for a SEMP grant from the Swiss government.
Participation criteria for study period :
- Existence of a bilateral SEMP agreement between the HES-SO - HEG-FR and your university. For further information, please contact your university.
- Length of mobility: minimum 2 months / maximum 12 months.
- Additional criteria specific to each university.
Funding:
The amount of the scholarship varies between CHF 380 and CHF 440 per month depending on the country of destination/origin and the type of mobility for the academic year 2022-2023.
International mobility - outside UE (excluding SEMP)
Exchange students from a non Erasmus + programme country partner university may be eligible to receive an allowance.
