PIR 2024 survey: HEG-FR makes progress in terms of positive societal and sustainable impact

12 Dec 2024

The societal impact and achievements in sustainable development of the School of Management Fribourg (HEG-FR) were recognized when the results of the Positive Impact Review (PIR) were published at the UN PRME Global Forum.

The HEG-FR is one of 77 business schools in 30 countries around the world that participated in this year's assessment and achieved Level 3 of the overall PIR score, making it a ‘school in progress’ according to the PIR assessment. This initiative is part of the AACSB certification process and the HES-SO's 2025-2028 Sustainability Strategy.

The PIR is a survey carried out by students for students. For the first time, students at the HEG-FR have evaluated their school based on how they perceive its positive impact on the world. The positive impact of business schools goes beyond their contribution to the business world and the economy – it responds to the need for a positive impact on society. As such, the student body has evaluated how the HEG-FR prepares them to become responsible business managers.

Participation in the PIR demonstrates the value that the HEG-FR places on student feedback and voices.

Data collection was organized and led by the student association MSO, which distributed the PIR survey on campus to its fellow students. This year, 117 students from the school responded to the survey, which consists of 20 questions on seven relevant impact dimensions across three areas: Energize, Educate, and Engage.

The PIR score is used to rank schools according to five levels. The different levels refer to the school's stage of development, assessing it against certain levels of achievement. The HEG-FR obtained a score of 3 on the PIR assessment scale, which means that it has already implemented a number of sustainability measures, particularly in the areas of teaching, research, governance, and the campus.
