Maya Dougoud is associate professor at the School of Management Fribourg (HEG-FR). She teaches intellectual property law to master's students in entrepreneurship, as well as ICT law, in particular data protection, industrial and research data management, both in continuing education courses and in EMBA classes. She also works as a legal counsel in public law and in academical law with the focus on compliance, digitalization and inclusion. Since 2018, she has also held the position of Data protection officer (DPO) at the HES-SO//FR and is cantonal data respondent. She also conducts research as part of her work at the HEG-FR but also with a long term collaboration in the HumanTech Institute of the School of Engineering and Architecture Fribourg. She conducts ICT projects and is also involved in SDG projects. She recently took part to research projects: Digital skills: IT security & digital ethics (supported by Swissuniversities P8), Egalité de genre et transition numérique (supported by Swissuniversities P7), Regulatory Framework Open Access (supported by Swissuniversities), Blockchain and IGP (Private mandate), Deep Dive Chalet (interinstitutional education), Equality management and women engineers in SMEs (supported by Swiss Federal Office for Gender Equality). She has a number of personal entrepreneurial projects, in mechanical engineering, mobile applications and e-commerce.
Having trained at the University of Fribourg’s Faculty of Law (Bachelor and Master degree), she worked in a bilingual (FR/DE) law firm specializing in business law, then in the Office of the Public Prosecutor and by SWITCH whose mission is to enable, maintain and promote a secure and networked research and education infrastructure in Switzerland. She trained at EPFL Innovation Park Innosuisse Start-up Training, Business concept, a federal programme for startup founders and certified the Oxford Women’s Leadership Development Programme. She owns a didactic attestation. Currently, she is writing her dissertation for the University of Neuchâtel on “Open science and academic freedom”.
Alongside her duties as a parent to two teenagers, she is very active in NGOs. She is the former and youngest president of Women lawyers Switzerland and holds board positions in other professional associations (Schweizer IT-Juristinnen) and historical associations (CH2021). She has also founded a number of non-profit associations and foundations in the fields of health (www.38-5.ch), equality (www.strukturelle.ch) and culture (ImproFR). She is also one of the two founders of the international day against harassment for inclusion in the world of work (www.24may.org).
