Since 2024, the Fribourg School of Management (HEG-FR) has been conducting a major annual nationwide survey in collaboration with various partners, targeting family businesses whose ownership or management consists of members of the first or subsequent family generations. The goal of the survey is to gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by family businesses in Switzerland.
The 2026 survey is being conducted in collaboration with the PME Magazine, the Handelszeitung, and the Centre Patronal. Other supporting partners include the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Canton of Fribourg (CCIF), the Communauté régionale de la Broye (Coreb), the Fédération des Entreprises Romandes (FER) in Geneva, Neuchâtel, and Valais, as well as the Fédération Patronale et Économique (FPE – CIGA), the Fédération Genévoise des Métiers du Bâtiment (FMB), and the Fribourg Employers’ Association (UPCF).
The focus of this year’s survey is on governance and succession planning within the surveyed family businesses.
