Dr. Viktoriia Apalkova is a researcher, lecturer, and applied management expert at the School of Management Fribourg (Haute école de gestion Fribourg, HEG-FR), where she leads the BISWISS research project on Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence governance in Swiss organisations. She is also a member of the national GEM Switzerland team (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) and co-author of the national reports 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.
Her research sits at the intersection of digital transformation, data-driven decision-making, entrepreneurial ecosystems, and organisational resilience. She works primarily with qualitative and mixed methods, conducting in-depth interviews with executives across Swiss regulated industries including energy, pharmaceuticals, finance, and insurance. Her recent publication on analytics maturity co-authored with Prof. Jürgen Fritz received the Best Paper Award at the 26th International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS 2026, Springer, Prague).
Dr. Apalkova combines academic expertise with more than fifteen years of international consulting experience, having led over 200 strategy, analytics, and business development projects with clients including Siemens, Bosch, Bunge, and within the EBRD Business Advisory Services Programme. She has taught economics, information systems, and management disciplines at Bachelor and Master levels in Switzerland, Germany, and Ukraine, and is currently developing original teaching cases grounded in primary company research for submission to the International Journal of Case Studies in Management (HEC Montréal).
Her profile bridges academia and practice — she brings research-based insights to organisations, and real organisational challenges back into the classroom and into her research.
