Vision & mission
Activities of the Entrepreneurship and SMEs Institute are organized around defined centres of interest. The first is the entrepreneurial process when creating a business. (Entrepreneurial Process). What factors foster the activities involved in founding an enterprise in a region? What educational measures should one encourage in order to mobilize students` entrepreneurial potential? Entrepreneurship is not restricted to just setting up an enterprise, but is also concerned with how an enterprise manages its growth.

This other domain (Growth & SMEs Internationalization) concerns successful internationalizing strategies and new guidelines for SMEs. A third area of research is based on the heterogeneous characteristics of SMEs and addresses family enterprises (Family Business) and the issues connected with inheriting businesses. According to a recent study, 25% of Swiss SMEs will have to settle on their successors during the next 5 years. Research should address this problem and offer solutions, such as platforms aimed at entrepreneurs and potential successors, for example. A final field covers innovations, in particular how they can be created and implemented in large enterprises and public organizations. (Corporate Entrepreneurship).
